This substrate which is often refered to in literature is both suitable for burrowing animals which require a softer lower layer of substrate to dig in as well as being a perfect egg deposition medium.  This substrate is also excellent for rodents.  Due to its composition it is great for neutralising waste products from the animals and thanks to the peat mix it also helps neutralise bad smells.
