Complete breeding system for professional standard breeding of fruitflies.

Contains:

50 containers 500ml
50 lids (appropriate holes in place)
50 air flow sponges
2.5 kg drosofix (food)
5 Litres wood wool

Mix the drosofix with water to make a grainy paste, filling the bottoms of the containers to a depth of around 2cm, before adding a good ammount of the wooden wool to the container. Now add a breeding group of fruit flies (approx. 20 D. hydei or approx. 50 D. melanogaster). Once in place quickly close the container using a lid with an air flow spunge plugging the hole in the top of the lid.

A good temperature for breeding these flies seems to be around 20 - 23c, which will allow you to use flies from these cultures for feeding within 8 to 12 days on average. Removing flies for feeding is easy, simply remove the air sponge and let the flies out, and then replace when you have taken enough out for feeding. No more escapees due to badly fitting lids!

Drosofix can be mixed with banana puree to allow it to last longer, however it has the perfect nutrients for these flies in its pure form, without added fruit puree. Re moistening the food mixture once in use is not generally necessary, and is a food suitable for all Drosophila species flies.
