Peat fibre is produced from traditionally cultivated peat.  When wet this fibre will swell slightly and hold moisture extremely well.  This also applies to the moisture from your animals waste which is bound by the substrate effectively.  The humic acid in this substrate help to fight bad odours from the animals, while the acidic ph value also helps to slow down bacterial and fungal growth.

Peat fibre is great for moist to very wet terrariums as a substrate, but is also suitable for some rodents.
